Tiki Tuesday!
Every Tuesday during the summer we will be featuring some of our favorite tiki drinks and changing them up from week to week. Some are classics and some are creations by members of our team.
Painkiller
Created by bartender Daphne Henderson and owner of the Soggy Dollar Bar, a now legendary small beach bar on Jost Van Dykeās White Bay in the British Virgin Islands. The drink was aptly coined āThe Painkillerā because Daphne felt the strength of the cocktail would surely take away anyoneās pain they may be having, especially having just burned a number of calories swimming to shore.
Ingredients
Plantation white rum, Pineapple, coconut, lime, dark rum float
$14.00
PiƱa Colada
Pineapple and rum have been paired together since rum was first distilled. The name comes from the Spanish translation meaning āstrained pineappleā. We can think of few better ways to enjoy a hot day than to do so while sipping on a Pina colada.
Ingredients
Plantation white rum, Pineapple, coconut, lime, dark rum float
$14.00
Saturn (clarified)
The second most famous gin tiki drink after the Singapore Sling... The original drink is credited to California bartender J. āPopoā Galsini, who won the International Bartenderās Association World Championship in 1967. We thought to ourselves... wouldn't it be cool if it was clarified? So we did it... Clarified means we used milk to strip the color which makes a clear drink with some added silky texture.
Ingredients
Hayman's London Dry gin, lemon juice, Chinola passion fruit, orgeat* & Velvet Falernum. Milk clarified
$15.00
Jungle Bird
Technically this one comes from the post-tiki era, but it is also one of our favorites at Mosaic... It has the perfect balance of bitter and sweet (Campari fans will love this!). It was rumored to have been created in the late 1970s at the Kuala Lampur Hilton.
Ingredients
Goslings dark rum, Campari, pineapple, lime juice, demerara syrup
$15.00
Zombie
Legend has it that Don the Beachcomber originally concocted the Zombie to help a hung-over customer get through a business meeting. The customer returned several days later to complain that he had been turned into a zombie for his entire trip. Its smooth, fruity taste works to conceal its extremely high alcoholic content.
Ingredients
Hamilton Zombie rum blend, grapefruit juice, Velvet Falernum, cinnamon simple, lime, grenadine, Angostura
$18.00
